Happy November, everyone! It’s been many months, but I make no apologies for being TBTB. Too Busy To Blog. Gotta pay the mortgage. So let’s get going again.
With a touch of cynicism I recall the Halloweens of my youth. With rose-colored glasses of course.
This cartoon speaks my mind. Meet Eddie Smolen, the curmudgeonly carpenter of Clinton’s Ditch, his hometown on the good old Erie Canal.
Whining much? Geesh.
Last night’s crisp Autumn weather provided a perfect night for the kids who shook us down for goodies. If they stood there mute with open bag, I put my hand to my ear, smiled and said, “I can’t hear you!” That usually worked. And if not the parents prompted the little ones to chant the time-honored words. I mean, really, they gotta earn it!

I asked one child who knocked on my door, “Yes, can I help you?” He looked puzzled and then said “Oh yeah, Trick or Treat”. Big smiles.
I used to detest Halloween, but upon learning that fundamentalists of all religious stripes are opposed to it have changed my opinion. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
